“GOOD LORD! GEEZ!” she gasped, realizing a shiver of panic, coupled with a jump two feet backwards and the three charts she was carrying plummeting to the floor.

“Have you lost your ever loving mind,” she said, loudly, once she realized who had frightened her.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.” Reginald apologized as his fingers slid sensuously over her hand that gripped the handrail.

“Oh sure. I’m walking down a dimly lit, empty staircase and you pop out of nowhere. Why are you still here anyway?” She asked firmly.

“Working, baby. Always working.”

“Since when is human resources open after five.”

“Working with security tonight. Trying to get a handle on things.”

“Demoted, huh.”

“Naw. That’s where I started. Remember, I was the head of security before Human Resources. I worked there while I was finishing my degree in HR. Now with the head of security out on medical leave they asked me to help.”

Together, they picked up and sorted the papers that had scattered on the floor. Picking up the last few pieces of paper, Reginald stood and drew himself closer to Daphne, who was now sitting a few steps above him. He was almost too close. Only inches separated them. Looking up at her intensely, his eyes tried to read her. Immediately, she could feel the hairs on her arms stand. Even after a long days work, he still smelled good. Rugged and woodsy. Not that sweet stuff that most men wear.

When their eyes met, it was like fire. He didn’t speak. Slowly, he drew his eyes up and down her body, not resting until they again met her eyes. They glistened to him. Warm. Giving. Sensual. “You know, you shouldn’t use the stairs after hours.”

“What could happen?” she said, slyly.

“This.” Quickly, Reginald leaned forward and captured her lips in his before she could object. Gently at first, then more probing. His hand clamped around her neck, caressing it gently. His tongue roaming her teeth asking for entrance.

Slowly she opened her mouth and their tongues twisted together in a long passionate kiss. She could feel the hot air swirling around her head. She could feel the energy being pulled out of her. Drawing her hands up she grabbed his hands and pulled them from her neck and away from her.

Catching her breath, “We could get fired for this,” she whispered, as they pulled apart.

“It would be worth it.” He said as he leaned in again and recaptured her mouth in his.

This time Daphne reached up and grasped her hands behind his head pulling it closer to her. Electrical impulses catapulted through her lips, around her mouth and down her throat not stopping until they reached her stomach. Immediately Reginald could feel his heart pound in her chest. Standing but not separating he grabbed her around the waist and helped her to her feet.

“What time are you going home?” He said finally after separating and taking a long breath.

“Soon, I hope,” she whispered, as if she didn’t want anyone but him to hear. “I’ve got a few more things to finish up and then I’m out of here."

“I’ll call you later.” Quietly he walked her down one more flight before she exited the stairwell and disappeared down the hall. He continued down to the next floor and exited at the basement.

She didn’t know why she had allowed her want to supercede her rational thought. Just looking at him. Seeing his mouth move made her want to taste those delicious looking full lips of his. At least just one more time.

Four flights up a tensed hand gripped the railing as perched ears listened in on a very private conversation. A diabolical and untrusting smirk covered a face. A slow nod of the head and the intruder quietly and quickly backed up the stairwell and returned in the same direction it came.
